I just read a long essay this morning called Can We End the American Empire Before It Ends Us?, by Chalmers Johnson, author of Nemesis: The Last Days of the American Republic. If you are interested in this kind of stuff, it's a great read.

I have followed electoral-vote.com for the past two presidential elections, and now I noticed that they have predictions for the upcoming midterm elections as well. So far things bode well for the Democrats with a predicted 50-49 (1 tie) for the Senate and 226-205 (4 ties) for the House of Representatives.
