I gave TinyXP Rev 09 a try recently as a guest in VirtualBox. (I do have a legal license for Windows XP, so while that definitely doesn't make downloading TinyXP legal, I feel that morally speaking it's ok).
I wasn't able to browse for shared folders at \\vboxsvr as I expected. It is, however, possible to map these folders to drives using the "net use" command:
net use z: \\vboxsvr\david
That worked perfectly. Have fun!

TinyXP and Shared Folders with Virtualbox
TinyXP turns off serveral services that make network browsing possible via the GUI. "Net Use" works because you're specifying the link directly, but if you want network browsing to work then turn these (normally) disabled services.
This worked with TinkXP v9
Routing and Remote Access
Network DDE
Network DDE DSDM
I think that's it -- hope this helps.

Something else?
Thanks, but I tried enabling those services and it still doesn't work. There must be some other services that I need to enable?

VirtualBox shared folders
Hello!
I was wrong -- turns out the services had little to do with it. Yes, those services will need to be turned on, but you also have to use VirtualBox Additions 1.6.0 instead of 1.6.2 and 1.6.4. I had been trying various versions of additions and virtualbox, and overlooked the 1.6.0 in my relief to get Windows browsable network folders again.
Apologies, and good luck!

Weird
Interesting...I wonder why it stopped working in later versions. Thanks for the help.

RE:
Just found this post.
I encountered a similar problem. The "net use" command didn't work.
I am using Debian 5.0 and have installed Virtual Box OSE Versuib 2.2.2_OSE and TinyXP Rev 09.
I typed "net use x: \\vboxsvr\xp_data" and got this message:
"The network location cannot be reached. ..."
Any idea? Thanks!

I just installed TinyXP rev10
I just installed TinyXP rev10 and had this issue. The solution had nothing to do with Routing and Remote Access, Network DDE or
Network DDE DSDM.
The answer is the Computer Browser service. It depends on Workstation, which was disabled by default in my TinyXP. Once I enabled Workstation and started it, I was able to start Computer Browser and could access other machines via the GUI using \\.
Hope this helps.

sharing vista + tinyxp rev09
I also had to deal with problems sharing between those two in subject. Here'a what i did:
1. i added entry in registry in tinyXP; don't have the link now sorry
2. i made account on vista with password and used it to connect from tinyXP
3. I went through wizard on tinyXP to share a directory ( i also made an account on tinyXP for access from vista but not sure if needed)
4. disabling optional firewall ( nvidia) and some other obvious stuff
